Patrick left his Midwest roots to travel to south
Louisiana in the 70's, pursuing an art degree at the University of Southwestern
Louisiana in Lafayette. Now some thirty years later, he still makes Lafayette
his home. From his very first glimpse of the water-inundated landscape, so different
from the Ozark Mountains of Missouri, it was love at first sight.
It’s no surprise, therefore, that wide-open salt marshes, moss draped
live oaks, and vast cypress swamps have made their way onto his canvasses.
Patrick creates his paintings in oils, working wet on wet. In many cases,
he tries to finish the canvas in one sitting, using the brush to layer the thick
paint, imbuing it with texture and light so one can almost “feel” the
moss blowing gently on the gulf breeze and sense the warmth of the early morning
sun through the twisting limbs. His landscape work has been the recipient of
several awards and is found in many corporate and individual collections throughout
the South.
